Trout fishing has been good at Howard for anglers braving the smoke. Hoxie Cove and the channel between the resort and dam have produced some holdover trout upwards of 17- to 18-inches. Fishing PowerBait from boats is still producing, but don’t be afraid to troll a wedding ring and flasher with the reduced visibility. On July 30, Kaiden, 15-year-old from Klamath Falls, caught a monster 23-inch rainbow trout weighing in at 3.2 pounds while trolling at Howard.
Fishing for largemouth and smallmouth bass is good. The lake is 49 percent full, and water clarity has been reduced somewhat due to some evidence of an algae bloom. All the boat ramps except Grizzly are open, but the ramps at Klum and Willow Point are limited to small boats. Larger boats should launch at the resort ramp.
