This waterbody was last stocked in late May with about 3,300 trout.
The water elevation in the reservoir is about 76 feet below full pool at the moment and dropping slowly. Whitcomb boat ramp is no longer usable to launch boats as it is no longer in the water. Thistle Creek boat ramp, however, is still usable as of Sept. 30.
Best bet for anglers without a boat is to drive to the top of the reservoir where Quartzville Creek enters the reservoir. Large trout will sometimes forage where the river brings in food swept down from upstream. Check the US Army Corps of Engineer’s website for more information.
Trout as well as bass are good options for anglers this time of year. Look for them near ledges and drop-offs as well as near underwater structure such as submerged logs. Kokanee fishing is heating up with most fish in the 8- to 9-inch range. Reports of kokanee fishing over the weekend had fish biting in the morning hours at depths of 30-50 feet. The bag limit for kokanee is 25 fish per day in addition to the 5 trout daily limit.
