If you fish Long Lake in the Spokane area, you may see WDFW boats on the water from late March through June, as we partner with Avista to expand annual efforts to remove carp from the lake in order to improve water quality. WDFW crews will also be removing northern pike due to their potential expansion into new waters and their impact on populations of other fish species. The video below explains the harmful effects both these species can have on their environment. More information on northern pike can be found at https://wdfw.wa.gov/species-habitats/invasive/esox-lucius.
