EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIRce fishing has been good over the past few weeks, but sunny days and warming temperatures will soon start thinning the ice. Please check with the folks at Spring Valley State Park (775-962-5102) for current ice conditions. Anglers have broken a few holes through the ice along the dam. Weather is expected to be sunny for the rest of the week.

ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR

Ice covering the reservoir has thawed completely, though anglers may find ice along the shoreline in the morning hours. Rainbow trout are taking worms and rainbow-colored PowerBait. The campgrounds and facilities are open. The weekend weather forecast calls for sunny days with nighttime lows near freezing.

LAKE MEAD

High winds have kept many anglers off the lake. Reports of black bass action are coming in from the northwest area of the Boulder Basin. Largemouth are showing a preference for chrome crankbaits and smallmouth are hitting walking baits. Stripers are averaging 1-3 pounds, with anchovies being the bait of choice. The crappie bite is beginning to pick up in the Virgin Basin. Crappie jigs in chartreuse and pearl are good choices.

LAKE MOHAVE/WILLOW BEACH

Willow Beach boaters are catching large stripers about a mile downstream from the marina. One lucky angler caught a 32-pound striper while trolling a swimbait. Rainbow trout are biting chartreuse-colored spinners and PowerBait fished off the pier. At the southern end of the reservoir, smallmouth up to 4 pounds are hitting soft plastics. Striper action is hit and miss, but boaters are reporting some shad activity just above Davis Dam.

LAUGHLIN

Striped bass are taking a variety of glide baits, swimbaits and anchovies thrown by shore anglers. A 17-pound striper was caught using anchovies below Casino Row. Anglers are catching stocked rainbow trout all along the river. Green and orange PowerBait, spinners and night crawlers are catching the fish.

 WAYNE E. KIRCH WMA

Ice covering the WMA reservoirs has thawed across the reservoirs. Anglers may need to break through ice in shallow areas for fishing access or to launch their vessels. Trout are hitting on olive emerger flies, Rooster Tails, and worms. Cold water temperatures are keeping bass action on the extremely slow side, even on warm afternoons.

URBAN PONDS

Ponds at Floyd Lamb, Sunset, Lorenzi, and Veterans Memorial parks all have been recently stocked with rainbow trout. The Nevada Department of Wildlife will continue with trout plants until water temperatures get too warm to sustain trout. The fish are taking PowerBait in a variety of colors, spinners, and spoons. Silver lures are working the best.
