With warming surface temperatures, trout anglers will want to fish off the bottom in the deepest water they can find or early in the morning or evening. The boat ramp at area A is likely getting close to being unusable, especially for larger vessels. For bank anglers interested in a little hike, walkalong the shore toward the dam to find the deepest water. The best success out here will be targeting warmwater fish.
Bass fishing should be fair to good. Anglers are throwing lipless crankbaits/rattlers, spinner baits, and Texas rigs. A nice 3- or 4-inch swim bait is also a good option and according to a recent angler, has produced nicely. Bluegill and black crappie are also available. With the extremely low water, look for rocky outcrops to target.
For more information on park facilities closures visit the Jackson County Parks website. The RV Park is only open to fire victims, but the tent campsites are open to the general public.
The reservoir is dropping again with irrigation back on, and is currently at 24 percent capacity. Surface temperatures should be approaching the mid-70s or higher later this week.
