The Nehalem gets a run of "summer Chinook" (an early component of the fall run) and those fish are in the bay. Fishing remains fair with a few fish being caught daily. Some of the early fish are starting to move into the river, and the more traditional fall run fish are just coming in.
Due to a below average forecast the bag limits for wild Chinook salmon have been reduced. See the Regulation Updates section above for details.
A few hatchery coho have been caught in the bay already and numbers should start to increase as we get further into September.
Saturday (9/9/23) will be the first day of the wild coho fishery in Nehalem Bay. The fishery is open two days a week, Wednesdays and Saturdays, from Sept. 9 to Oct. 18. See the Regulation Updates section above for details. Hatchery coho are always open in the bay and this year will be the first return of wild broodstock origin hatchery adults.
