This fall, anglers have had success catching trout and whitefish in the Wallowa River. Fishing for those two species can be good throughout the winter and anglers can be successful using a variety of techniques including drifting nymphs and casting spinners.
Steelhead fishing opened on Sept. 1. Generally, few steelhead will be available to anglers on the Wallowa River until late fall and early winter though.
Remember, Chinook salmon, coho salmon, and bull trout encountered while fishing for other species cannot be harvested and must be released.
