Fishing has been slow due to river fluctuations. Check water flow on this website before making the trip. Once flows remain fairly constant, fishing will pick up again.
Anglers were successful earlier this month using very small dry flies throughout the day. This river is spring fed and does not freeze in the winter. Ana River is a great match-the-hatch fly-fishing river with good hatches throughout the year. Hatches typically occur during the afternoon from 12-3 p.m. Small blue-winged olive mayfly hatches are typically best on overcast days with light rain. Beadheads under a bobber work as well as stripping minnow patterns in low light conditions.
Tui chub are abundant in the river therefore casting large flies or lures can be effective for catching larger fish. Bait fishing is allowed, and anglers can keep 5 trout.
