ODFW has been stocking hybrid bass, called Wipers, in a high-desert reservoir for more than 40 years. These White and Stiped bass hybrids start off as fingerlings but grow astonishingly quickly, feeding on the tui chubs present in the reservoir.
The state record Wiper came out of Ana Reservoir weighing in at 19 pounds, 12 ounces.
February and March are the most-popular times to chase these bass as the reservoir is drawn down in winter.

And be sure to follow along with our Oregon Warm Water Tour, and attempt by one ODFW staff member to catch a warm water fish in every month of 2024. We'll be making our February attempt at Ana Reservoir this week.
