Fishing can be better at the beach

While many inland fishing destinations are plagued by summer maladies like warm water temperatures, wildfire closures and blue-green algae blooms, things are looking good on the ocean for:‌

  • Ocean salmon
  • Halibut
  • Bottomfish
  • Albacore tuna
  • Crabbing
  • And saltwater taffy

Check the Marine Zone fishing report for the specifics.‌

5 tips for fishing in hot water

With the warm summer temperatures continuing, fish will be feeling the heat. Give them a break by following these warm weather fishing guidelines.‌

Fishing during blue-green algae (cyanobacterial) blooms

As temperatures heat up during spring and summer, be on the watch for harmful algae blooms when recreating in Oregon lakes, rivers and reservoirs. Before you go fishing, check water quality conditions at the Oregon Health Authority website.‌

Hunters, anglers: Check for wildfire closures

Wildfire season is already hitting Oregon hard. For anglers and hunters, this can mean access closures and fire restrictions. So before you go, use the links on this webpage to check for fire updates at your destination.‌

Comment on 2025 bottomfish and halibut seasons

ODFW is hosting a series of public meetings to get angler input on season options that will include a more restrictive bag limit for some rockfish species. Find meeting times and locations.‌
