Hunting updates return to Rec Report
With the opening of both fur and feather seasons, it's time to bring hunting back to the Recreation Report. Based on a user survey earlier this year, the new schedule for Recreation Report updates will be:
- Fishing – updated weekly throughout the year.
- Hunting (big game and game bird) – updated weekly through January 2025, followed by an off-season hiatus.
- Wildlife viewing – updated monthly throughout the year.

Things are looking good for upland bird and waterfowl hunters this season. See what local ODFW biologists have to say about the upcoming season.
Fall fishing: Swimming with possibilities
Fall can offer some of the best fishing of the year. Chinook and coho are returning to their natal streams, winter steelhead are pushing upriver, and trout are actively feeding, getting ready for lean winter months. Check the zones reports for the best bets near you.
Help protect Oregon's wildlife: Turn in poachers
Poaching takes a serious toll on of Oregon's wildlife. You can help by reporting poaching when you take to the field or hit the water this season. Find out more about poaching in Oregon, including ways you can report it.
Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD)
CWD is a fatal disease infecting deer and elk across North America. It has now been found in three bordering states – Idaho, Washington, and California, but has not yet been detected in Oregon. Hunters can do their part to protect local herds by getting their deer or elk harvest tested. Learn more about CWD and the ways to get your animal tested.
