Bird harvest statistics from ODFW wildlife areas

Wondering how good hunting has been on ODFW wildlife areas? Several wildlife areas post waterfowl (duck and/or goose) and upland game bird harvest statistics on MyODFW.com. Combine recent harvest numbers with current conditions in the field to decide where to hunt.

Celebrate Bat Week!

Just in time for Halloween, International Bat Week is Oct. 24-31. Bats are a crucial part of healthy environments as they pollinate plants and control insect pests. Learn more about Oregon's 15 native bat species and how you can become a better bat neighbor.

Best bets for weekend fishing:

  • Anglers continue to catch fall Chinook in Nestucca, Tillamook and Nehalem bays.
  • Hatchery coho are starting to move into the Trask and North Fork Nehalem. (Wild coho seasons on the North Coast closed Oct. 23).
  • Coho fishing continues to be good in the Sandy, Clackamas, North Santiam and Willamette above Oregon City.
  • Lost Creek Reservoir and Hyatt, Howard Prairie, Fish Lake and Diamond Lake are all good destinations for fall trout fishing. Fish now before the first snows limit access.
  • Steelhead fishing continues to be good on the McKenzie, above Leaburg Dam, and on the Middle Fork Willamette.
  • Fall trout fishing in the hike-in lakes of the Sky and Mountain Lake wilderness areas. Trout will be biting trying to bulk up for the winter, and brook trout will be more accessible as they move closer to shore for spawning.
  • Fishing for native redband trout has been good on the Chewaucan and Blitzen rivers.
  • Trout fishing has been excellent on Campbell and Cottonwood Meadow lakes.
  • Jubilee, Wallowa and Magone lakes should provide good trout fishing into fall.
  • The lower Umatilla River remains a good bet for salmon and steelhead.
  • Steelhead fishing is picking up on the Grande Ronde River.

These examples are for demonstration purposes only. Check the zone reports for more.
