After a week of sunshine, the weather will put us back on track with Baetis fishing. The Madison below Quake Lake will have exceptional dry fly fishing on any truly overcast day. Any day that has a fair amount of clouds in the sky will get enough bugs moving to make nymph fishing very good. The wade stretch offers terrific Baetis water. The pockets are also great for nymphing. On the overcast days, streamer fishing from a boat can also be productive. Remember that Baetis Tricaudatus typically emerge between 12-4pm on this stretch of the river. If you're on the river during the other hours you should try nymphing and streamer fishing $3 Dips in Krystal and original brown as well as BWO Split Case Nymphs are deadly fished in tandem or below a brown rubber leg stone nymph. When fishing the Madison below quake lake your eyes are your most powerful weapon. If we don't take care to look for risers, our feet will end up where the most active fish were feeding. Patience in fishing offers great rewards. Size 22 sparkle duns help too. The river between the lakes is fishing well with bwo nymphs and midge pupae patterns like our $3 Dips in brown and krystal as well as Micro Madison Baetis and Mercer's BWO Nymphs.
