Anglers report fair to good fishing for rainbows from the bank. A few boats were out last week, and some diehard float-tubers, reported fair to good fishing for rainbows and walleye. The bass and yellow perch are few and far between. Because of the cold weather, you'll find the best fishing in the mid-morning and late-afternoon hours. For trout, try trolling or casting fish-colored crankbaits, beadhead streamers or a worm rig in 20 to 30 feet of water. If you're fishing from shore, try a marshmallow-and-worm combination or a floating PowerBait-and-worm combination. For walleye, go deep into the rocks or shallow into the backs of the bays. Use rainbow or perch-colored crankbaits or worm rigs. Most of the walleye are small, and you can help the fishery by taking them home. Watch out for the afternoon winds, which can quickly generate big waves. Improvements to the campgrounds and facilities, and the addition of a new 3D archery range have greatly improved the state park.
