On Jan. 15, DWR Aquatics Technician Rick Berg recommended using small jigs tipped with worms and chub meat. He suggests fishing for trout in five to 10 feet of water. Based on his creel surveys, Rick believes anglers can catch trout almost anywhere around the reservoir. On Jan. 13, Survey Technician Mike Ault reported six or more inches of ice, capped with several inches of snow, which may have deepened since a subsequent snowstorm. Mike said anglers have been catching cutthroats, along with a few rainbows. He said he hasn't seen many anglers catching tiger trout. Most anglers were using jigs tipped with chub meat, worms or PowerBait. Anglers on BigFishTackle.com have reported ice ranging from 6-12 inches. During the past several weeks, trout have been caught more frequently in water that's less than seven feet deep, while chubs have been more prolific in water deeper than 10 feet. Some anglers have described the cutthroats as fairly skinny. Rainbows have ranged from 9-12 inches long.
