The main ramp at Deer Creek is currently open, but the island ramp will remain closed until further notice. Quagga mussel veligers have been confirmed at Deer Creek Reservoir. There is an active closure order on the reservoir that requires all watercraft decontaminate when exiting Deer Creek. Learn more about decontaminating requirements. Check the park's website for current conditions or the Deer Creek State Park Facebook page to see when the ramps will be back open.
The reservoir has some ice near Charleston Bay and we've had a recent report of an angler going through the ice. Please use extreme caution! Anglers report catching nice-sized rainbow trout near the dam wall on Kastmasters and peach PowerBait. You may want to try tipping a jig with chub meat. Fish are being marked at depths of 20 to 40 feet. Try using green crystal buggers with sinking line. The reservoir is currently 83 percent full, and the island has water surrounding it.
