On Jan. 28, Calvin Black reported six to eight inches of ice with open water in parts of Seely Bay. The reservoir is known to have underwater springs that may thin or soften the ice sheet. Please use extreme caution. Bart Sorensen fished on Jan. 27 and 28 and caught one 23-inch, 4-pound splake, as well as one 25-inch, 7-pound splake. Bart was fishing with chubs on the west side. In general, points and underwater structure hold more fish than other spots. You'll find a lot of trout in 20-25 feet of water. On Jan. 23, Tony Wright fished shallow water on the east side for three hours in the afternoon. He caught one 16-inch tiger trout and said the ice was four to six inches thick. On Jan. 17, Randall Stilson fished with white jigs, tipped with a nightcrawler. He caught 11 trout in seven hours. The biggest was a 17-inch tiger. Randall said the best fishing was between 8 and 10 a.m. Ice thickness ranged from four to eight inches.
