Big stripers have been taking bait at Willow Beach. A pair of boat anglers reeled in a mess of stripers that included three fish measuring from 29 to 37.5 inches in length. These fish were caught on top-water swimbaits in the early morning hours and not far from the marina. Trout fishermen have been doing well near the point where the hatchery outflow stream flows into the Colorado River. Flies, lures and PowerBait have been catching trout in the 12- to 14-inch range. One group of fishermen reportedly pulled in about 30 fish.
Further south, both shore and boat anglers have found fair to good fishing near Cottonwood Cove. Morning hours are the most productive, but fish have been biting round the clock. Anglers have found success for stripers while trolling baits or still fishing. There have been report of both striped and largemouth bass taking spinner baits. Catfish as large as eight pounds have shown up on stringers as well.
