Covered with Ice

Wild Horse is still covered with ice, but it is starting to break up a bit south of the island. There is a ring of water around the edge and is fishable from shore, though some areas have more open water than others. The lake level continues to come up, having risen two feet last week, and is now seven feet higher than last November. The water is almost to the state park boat ramp and if this continues anglers may actually be able to safely launch a boat this year. Going into the winter, the lake was approximately 13% of capacity and is currently approximately 27% of capacity. So we have double the water we started with. Anglers should expect fishing to be slow, following two years of no stocking, even though 10,000 trout were stocked last fall. If water levels continue to rise stocking should resume this spring.
