redband trout, whitefish
Steelhead fishing has been decent on the Deschutes River from the mouth upstream to Sherars Falls. Catch rates have been similar to recent years. Anglers in the Maupin area should start to see more steelhead because they have been passing over Sherars Falls. White River has been causing some visibility issues on the lower river; however, it appears to be fishable most days.
Fall chinook and coho fishing has been picking up with anglers catching some nice bright fish. Most of the fish are being caught in the allowable bait zone below Sherars Falls.
Trout fishing has been good this year throughout the river. Good fishing should continue, especially from Maupin to Warm Springs.
Anglers who catch a tagged hatchery steelhead with an orange anchor tag, are encouraged to report catch information to ODFW at 541-296-4628. Anglers catching a tagged wild fish should release it immediately without recording any information.
