Chinook salmon should be in the Kilchis and throughout the fishery. The Kilchis gets a later run than many basins so there should still be bright fish available here. The lower river will be the best opportunity to catch fish that are still in good shape. The Kilchis is also one of the first rivers to come back in shape after a rain event.
The catch-and-release fishery for chum salmon is open until Nov. 15 (NO RETENTION OF CHUM) and there should be fish available. This is a popular fishery, and can be really fun, but anglers are reminded to use ethical tactics and release fish unharmed. Last year we observed and received multiple complaints about snagging of chum salmon, which is illegal. Oregon State Police will be watching for snagging activity and continued non-compliance could result in a loss of fishing opportunity.
