Spring Chinook retention on the Hood River will open April 15 through June 30 from the mouth to mainstem confluence with the East Fork, and the West Fork from the confluence with the mainstem upstream to the angling deadline 200 feet downstream of Punchbowl Falls. The catch limit is one adult hatchery salmon per day and five hatchery jack salmon per day.

Hood River winter steelhead returns are currently much improved compared to the last several years. Currently, PIT-tag returns of Hood River-origin wild and hatchery steelhead are trending above the most recent 5-year average and steelhead passage over Bonneville is the second highest observed count over the past 6 years. Anglers have been reporting success bobber fishing with eggs and spinner fishing. Two hatchery steelhead may be harvested per day.

Flows and water visibility have been favorable this month and will likely stay consistent through April.
