Trout fishing opened on May 22 on the Umatilla. With flows continuing to drop and water temperatures increasing, look for fish to move upstream into the cooler water near the north and south Forks.
The spring Chinook fishery on the Umatilla River below Three Mile Falls Dam closed on June 10, the fishery above TMFD remains open until June 30. The bag limit is 2 adult and 5 jack hatchery spring Chinook per day.
The spring Chinook predicted to return to the Umatilla River this year has not been as expected, but the Umatilla River still is a great opportunity for anglers to harvest a spring Chinook. With water temperatures being almost 70 degrees and the flows continuing to drop the catch rate has been significantly reduced. As of June 12, a total of 2009 spring Chinook have returned to Three Mile Falls Dam (TMFD).
