The river is the only winter steelhead opportunity on the South Coast. All of the smaller south coast rivers closed to all angling at the end of March. The river has been running very high and muddy, but the weather appears to be improving and flows dropping. Anglers were picking up a few spring Chinook and steelhead every day before the high flows. Anglers will want to keep an eye on flows and weather before heading out.
Spring Chinook anglers cannot retain any steelhead they catch unless they have the Rogue South Coast Steelhead Validation.
