On Saturday, June 9 (Free Fishing Day in California), the Alpine County Chamber of Commerce, the Alpine County Fish and Game Commission and Alpine Kids will jointly sponsor an annual kids' fishing derby at Indian Creek Reservoir, Calif.
That reservoir is located between Woodfords and Markleeville, just off of Calif. S.R.'s 4 and 89, near the Alpine County Airport.
The derby, which is free to the youngsters, will begin at about 9 a.m. and run until about 1 p.m.
A free lunch of hot-dogs and soda pop will be provided for all of the contestants.
Children, up to and including 15-year-olds, will be allowed to compete in the derby.
The sponsors are anticipating that there will be about 70-80 youngsters entered in the derby.
There will be a large number of nice prizes provided for all of the children.
Participants are requested to provide their own fishing equipment.
Adults may also fish alongside of their children, if they desire to do so, because of the Free Fishing Day.
The sponsors have indicated that there is a need for additional adult volunteers to help with the derby.
For information, call Dave Kirby of the Woodfords Station at (530) 694-2930.?Į
