The ice thickness varies from 14 to 18 inches across the lake. There are some areas of slush that you should watch out for. Most anglers are finding good to fast fishing, but a few are having a tougher time. If fishing is slow for you, move around -- especially away from spots with a lot of anglers -- until you find more active fish. Fishing is still good to excellent for perch and small trout near the weedline in 15 to 25 feet. You can catch larger rainbows and splake at depths of 25 to 35 feet on the bottom or suspended at the same depths over deep water. Remember: There is no limit for perch at Fish Lake and any perch you catch can be disposed of in any manner. Anglers are encouraged to remove as many perch from the lake as they can. You can catch lake trout on the bottom in 70 to 100 feet of water, but it requires a lot of patience. Sonar can be very helpful in deep water, whether you're fishing on the bottom or suspended. Good ice may last through the rest of the month, but it's worth calling the Fish Lake Lodge at 435-638-1000 before you go to check current conditions.
